  1. I loved “Gimme Shelter” — not just because I’m a recently baptized dog owner or because it is a cleverly disguised psychological analysis turned into dog-theater — but because, through the book, I have re-connected with a wonderful friend. Although I haven’t seen you in 40+ years, I still consider you a terrific friend — and one of my most unforgettable buddies. You are still wearing your heart on your sleeve; still revealing your inner self; still painfully honest; and, entertainingly clever. After not seeing my best friend from college, Jack, for the same 40 years, we met for dinner at a NJ Italian restaurant — not nearly as good as Spirito’s in da Burg. Jack told me about your book and I was sworn to reading it…..which I have now done. It is you, Louie, it is the same Louie I knew and loved in high school. It is so great to see you again!

    • “Gimme Shelter” is a thought provoking book that tugs at your heart strings. Certainly a good addition to any book shelf for both young and old …and would be a great recommended read by your local dog shelter!

      • So glad you liked the book.. Wee lost Tanner to cancer in June 2018 but his successor, Hooch, is every bit as special, albeit it in a different, kooky way. Please feel free to recommend the book to the dog lovers in your life, or anyone struggling with anger issues Best, Lou

What a great surprise! So glad you liked the book and that you still consider us friends. I do, too. I think about you often and remember you as always effervescent and nice. Me, not so much. If you want, my email is louisspirito@gmail.com. From there I’ll shoot you my phone and we can reconnect Italian style, with lots of verbiage. Hope to hear from you.
